Hey everyone!
I am beaming with joy as I write of all the things God has done in this past month on campus! Again, I want to thank each of you for partnering with me prayerfully and financially - I would not be able to be on campus, meeting with students full-time if it were not for you!
This first month of ministry on the campus has left astonished and awestruck. We were praying for students to have open hearts as we invite them into our ministry to learn more about Jesus and, man oh man, has God been faithful!
Last night I was sitting in the audience of our worship night looking around at all the students God has brought into our ministry and I welled up with gratitude, humbled by the work He has done. There was such a wide range of life experiences and backgrounds present, including international students who never heard about God in their home country, students who have chosen to abandon their faith in the past, atheists and earnest seekers, and fresh-out-of-high-school Christians taking ownership of their faith for the first time!
The remarkable thing is not just that this diverse group was there last night, but that these very students have been there every week, consistently! They are hungry for truth, for meaningful connection, for a sense of belonging, and for friendship.
So many unlikely friendships are forming between people who may not otherwise have associated becasue of the bond of unity and peace through the work of the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 4:3). Our co-ed weekly Bible study has had 20+ people show up every week for the past 5 weeks! Each week, in addition to studying scripture, one of us shares our life story/testimony; this has brought a tremendous amount of depth and commitment within the group.
One of our students, who comes from a Hindu family, has been attending FOCUS since the summer. She previously was repulsed by religion because of a perceived devisiveness that stemmed from it, yet when she attended the services and met countless invitational Christians, her heart softened, compelling her to come back week after week.
After experiencing the love of God through Christians and seeing how unified this wildly diverse community was, she decided to make a commitment to follow Jesus! Her family is disapproving, which has brought pain and difficulty, but she is clinging to truths and comforts from Jesus, like Mark 10:29-30. I am consistently inspired by her courage, fervency, and wonder.
Guys, I could go on and on! There is simply so much that God has done this past month. This verse captures all that has happened and my reaction as I am humbled by how good God is:
"Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen."
Prayer Request:
For those, like the student mentioned, who are coming to know Jesus for the first time - pray for their hearts to continue to fall in love with Him and for their strength in the midst of spiritual warfare; pray for those of us leading to point them toward truth and the heart of God.
